About Ulike

How to Choose a Ulike IPL Device

The Air 3 is where most people start. It's light, easy to handle and gets through a full-body session in around 13 minutes. The Air 10 is the step up, with SkinSensor that reads your skin tone and sets the energy level for you, and quicker sessions of around 10 minutes. The Air 2 is the simplest way into the range and still has the same Sapphire Ice Cooling head. Looking for something for your face rather than hair removal? Browse our skincare devices.

Is Ulike IPL Right for Your Skin and Hair?

IPL works by finding the pigment in your hair, so it's most effective on darker hair against fair to medium skin. Blonde, red, grey and white hair don't carry enough pigment for the light to target. It isn't suitable for very deep skin tones either, because the skin itself absorbs too much of the energy. If you're pregnant or take medication that makes you sensitive to light, check with your GP before you start.

Ulike Air 3: Lightweight IPL With Ice Cooling

The Air 3 is Ulike's most searched device, and it's easy to see why. It's small enough to get around knees, ankles and underarms, and the treatment head is almost as wide as the device itself, so you're less likely to miss a patch. Hold the button down for AutoGlide and it flashes every 0.7 seconds while you glide over bigger areas like your legs. A full-body session takes around 13 minutes, and you can choose purple or white.

Ulike IPL vs Laser Hair Removal: What's the Difference?

Plenty of people search for a Ulike laser, but Ulike devices actually use IPL, or intense pulsed light. Laser uses one concentrated wavelength, while IPL uses a broader spectrum. At the root, both do the same job. The light is absorbed by the pigment in the hair, turns to heat and disrupts the follicle, so hair grows back slower and finer. Clinic laser is usually stronger per session. Home IPL is designed to be gentler, tends to work out cheaper over time and fits around your week rather than an appointment book.

Expert Tip for Ulike IPL Hair Removal

"Consistency is everything with IPL. Shave the area first, make sure your skin is clean and dry, and start on a lower setting so you can see how your skin responds. Treat three times a week for the first month, then drop to twice a week, and move to occasional top-ups once you're happy. Keep treated areas out of the sun, and skip anywhere with a tattoo, a mole or broken skin."

PMOS and Unwanted Hair Growth

Excess or unwanted hair is one of the most common signs of PMOS, and it's one reason many people look into IPL. Treating the hair is only part of the picture, though. Our guide to myo-inositol explains what the research says about this popular PMOS supplement, and what to check before you try it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Ulike a laser or IPL device?

Ulike devices use IPL, not laser. Both target the pigment in the hair to slow regrowth, but IPL uses a broader spectrum of light and is designed for gentler use at home.

Does Ulike IPL hurt?

Most people feel a warm flick rather than pain. Sapphire Ice Cooling keeps the head cool against your skin, which makes a real difference. Start on the lowest setting for sensitive areas like the bikini line and underarms.

How long does Ulike IPL take to work?

With three sessions a week, most people see slower, finer regrowth within around four weeks. Results usually build over eight to twelve weeks, then you'll only need the odd top-up.

What's the difference between the Ulike Air 3 and Air 10?

The Air 10 adds SkinSensor, which reads your skin tone and adjusts the energy automatically, and sessions are a little faster. The Air 3 is lighter and more affordable, and it still has Ice Cooling and AutoGlide.

Can I use Ulike on my face and bikini line?

Yes, you can use it on the lower face and around the bikini line. Avoid the eye area and the genitals themselves, and stay away from tattoos, moles and broken skin.

Which skin tones and hair colours does Ulike work on?

IPL works best on dark hair and fair to medium skin. It won't be effective on blonde, red, grey or white hair, and it isn't suitable for very deep skin tones.

Do I need to shave before using IPL?

Yes. Shave rather than wax or epilate, because IPL needs the root in place to work. Make sure your skin is clean and dry before you start.

Can I use Ulike IPL if I have PMOS?

Many people with PMOS use IPL for unwanted hair. Hormone-driven growth can be more persistent, so you may need more regular top-ups. Speak to your GP before you start if you're unsure.
