New Year, New Me, New Skincare Routine

We’re here to help get you and your skin through another lockdown. 2021 is the year of self-care, right? Well at Face the Future, a new year means new skincare! Let us help you start the year right with some skincare resolutions. We all want radiant, youthful and blemish-free skin, yet it can often seem as though this is only gifted to those with great genetics. It can be a struggle to find products that truly work with your skin, not against it. Read on to see how you can transform your skin in 2021…

Discover your skin type

Often the problem can be that you don’t know your actual skin type. Dry, dehydrated, oily, acne or sensitive? It can become so hard to distinguish between what you think your skin type is. Our skincare experts are here to help! Complete our online skin test and our team will recommend suitable products to address your skin concerns. Once you start using products that are truly suited to your skin, the results will be amazing!

Back to basics

As tempting as copying a 12-step regime might be, let’s take skincare back to basics so you can start with the essentials for great skin.

Cleansing

We’ve all heard about double cleansing, right? The action of cleansing twice first to remove all traces of makeup, SPF, dirt and impurities followed by a second cleanse to clean skin and prepare it for the application of other skincare products.

It’s is important to choose the right cleanser for your skin type. Drier skin types take well to creamy cleansers that don’t foam. One of our favourites is LABthetics Conditioning Milk Cleanser, which provides a gentle cleansing action to thoroughly cleanse without stripping skin’s own natural and protective oils. Formulated with Sunflower oil, Almond oil and Glycerine this cleanser works with the skin, rather than against it. Read our blog, The Ultimate Guide to Cleansing, to find out more.

Jan Marini Bioglycolic Face Cleanser contains glycolic acid to resurface skin, leaving it smoother with a more refined skin texture, this is excellent for dry and ageing skin types. The non-irritating, soap free formula also contains sorbitol, a natural berry-derived humectant, to keep skin feeling soft and hydrated. Although gentle, this cleanser provides a deep cleanse and completely rinses away, abolishing the need for an astringent or post-cleansing toner.

For normal to sensitive skin, the iS Clinical Cleansing Complex is perfect. This daily use cleansing gel provides an innovative balance of bio nutrients, antioxidants and mild resurfacing ingredients that thoroughly cleanse without stripping essential natural oils. Skin is deeply cleansed, pore size is reduced and skin is gently resurfaced.

Toning

Now onto toners, although not necessary in all skin types, they help to close pores and reduce impurities from environmental factors. They also work to balance skins pH level for a smoother appearance whilst calming and balancing skin. A very popular toner is the Environ Skin EssentiA Botanical Infused Moisturising Toner. This is packed with special ingredients to assist in moisturising and hydrating skin. It also improves the appearance of uneven skin tone and contains plant extracts, which are known to help enhance the appearance of healthy-looking skin.

Eye cream

Visibly reduce wrinkles and fine lines in the eye area with our bestseller, Mesoestetic Collagen 360 Degree Eye Contour. This next generation eye cream works to diminish the visible signs of ageing around the eye by stimulating the regeneration of collagen. For an extra cooling and de-puffing effect in the morning, pop this in the fridge!

Serums

This is the stage in your skincare routine where you can choose the active ingredients most suited to your skin type.

If you’re new to serums, a great place to start is a good Vitamin C for application in the morning and a Hyaluronic Acid for the evening. Vitamin C promotes collagen production, which thickens the dermis to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, for that sought-after youthful glow. Vitamin C is also an antioxidant, which protects skin cells from harmful UV exposure.

Mesoestetic AOX Ferulic is a powerful anti-ageing treatment that combats the damaging effects of oxidation in a revolutionary antioxidant concentrate with Vitamin C and Ferulic Acid alongside Vitamin E and peptides in an exclusive protech-cell complex.

Hyaluronic Acid is known for its skin benefits such as alleviating dry, dehydrated skin and improving the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Hyaluronic Acid draws water into the skin, leaving it hydrated, plump and radiant.

SkinCeuticals H.A. Intensifier is an intensive treatment serum formulated with a high concentration of pure hyaluronic acid to dramatically increase firmness, elasticity and hydration. This intensive, multi-functional serum has been clinically proven to increase skin’s levels of hyaluronic acid by 30%.

Moisturiser

Keeping skin moisturised is key to keeping it protected. A moisturised and supported skin barrier reduces skin problems and keeps all skin types balanced. Moisturising skin regardless of your skin type keeps fine lines and wrinkles at bay for longer and balances oil production, keeping skin beautifully balanced and glowing.

We always recommend keeping your moisturiser and SPF separate, allowing you to ensure you’re always applying to correct amount of SPF to ensure complete protection. Read on for our SPF recommendations.

A simple and effective moisturiser such as CeraVe Facial Moisturising Lotion restores skin’s protective barrier function with a combination of three essential ceramides, niacinamide and hyaluronic acid. This lightweight and non-greasy moisturiser contains MVE® Delivery Technology, which provides a controlled release for 24-hour hydration. The formula is fragrance-free, non-comedogenic (non-pore blocking) and is suitable for sensitive skin.

SPF

When you find an SPF that you love, applying it daily no longer seems like a chore. SPF is one of the key ways we can protect skin against ageing.

We love Heliocare 360 Water Gel SPF 50+, which is a lightweight yet hydrating formula that protects skin against UVA, UVB, visible light and infrared-A.

This intensely hydrating water gel sunscreen takes your sun protection to the next level! Absorbing quickly into skin, the advanced hydration system helps to retain moisture, provides skin with a barrier against pollution and also offers a completely clear and matte finish, which is ideal for those with skin of colour, and also a popular choice for men.

The alcohol-free, water resistant and non-comedogenic formula is vegan friendly and has been tested on sensitive skin and around sensitive eyes.

Treat Yourself to A Facial

Although our clinic is closed during the lockdown period, a clinical facial is the ultimate way to achieve and maintain fantastic skin.

We love the HydraFacial with LED light. This incredibly popular treatment removes dead skin and impurities whilst simultaneously enriching skin with hydrating and rejuvenating serums. The treatment is soothing, refreshing, non-irritating and immediately effective.

HydraFacial has proven benefits as a course of treatments to tackle problem skin concerns and is also great as a monthly treat to keep skin supple, soft, hydrated and youthful. Want to know more? Read our blog HydraFacial: Six Steps To Glowing Skin.
