iS Clinical: Behind The Brand
We were so excited to get the chance to meet the incredibly inspiring founders of iS Clinical, Alec Call and Bryan Johns. Having started the business over 20 years ago, the brand has certainly come a long way. We sat down to chat all things iS Clinical
Q: So lovely to meet you both! Can we ask what you were both doing before you created iS Clinical?
Bryan - I come from a scientific background and before we started iS Clinical, I was working in the field of genetics and biochemistry for a firm that was researching the internal causes of anti ageing. During my time there, I became more and more interested in the topical application of anti ageing products, which sparked an idea that I took to Alec - I am from an entrepreneurial background and actually worked in the entertainment industry for around 10 years before Bryan approached me with the idea to create a skincare brand.
Q: What are you most proud of when it comes to iS Clinical's achievements?
We have always been passionate about the physiological improvements we can make to individuals' skin.When we launched the brand, we were trialing our Active Serum on teenagers with severe acne and it was so fulfilling to see the incredible physical and emotional transformations of those young people as their skin improved using our products.Today, we work with some amazing charities including the National Breast Cancer Coalition, of which we both serve on the President's Council. We also provide products such as our Poly-Vitamin Serum to cancer patients going through radiotherapy and chemotherapy to encourage skin healing.
Q: iS Clinical has a huge celebrity following, how did that come about?
When we initially set up the business, we assembled an advisory board made up of a team of scientists, physicians and industry leaders. Once they started trying the products, they quickly became advocates for the brand, which is where our reputation began.Right at the beginning, I met with a friend of a friend and gave him some lab samples - not even the finalised or packaged product - it turns out he then passed those lab samples to a few of his clients, and those clients were none other than Gwyneth Paltrow, Cameron Diaz, Selma Hayek and Halle Berry to name a few! So that's where our celebrity following started, since then it's just grown and grown.
Q: What sets iS Clinical apart from other cosmeceutical brands?
We use a combination of Eastern and Western pharmaceutical-grade ingredients to create a botanically based and globally sourced cosmeceutical product, with cutting-edge technology that genuinely makes a difference to skin.A lot of brands focus on active ingredients, and of course they matter, but our main concern is formulation and how ingredients work alongside each other. The manufacturing of iS Clinical products is all handled in-house, so we have complete control over the entire process. We have seven quality control checks (industry standard is two) because we are always aiming for absolute perfection.
Q: Who are iS Clinical products suitable for?
iS Clinical formulations are for everyone - and we mean everyone! Our formulations are based on skin and cell health, meaning our products are safe for all ages, all skin concerns and all skin tones.
Q: What are your favourite products?
Bryan - If I had to choose just one? Wow, that's tough! I would have to say Active Serum, as it's such a versatile product. It can be used to treat acne, ageing, pigmentation and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. I also love that you can really feel it working - we call that the tingle!
Alec - I suffered with severe pigmentation issues, which have disappeared thanks to my favourite product: White Lightening Complex. This powerful treatment is antioxidant-rich, anti-inflammatory, inhibits tyrosinase activity that causes pigmentation, as well as exfoliating skin's surface.
