Guaranteed Glow With SkinCeuticals Glycolic Duo

Glycolic Acid (C2H4O3, if you're feeling science-y) is the smallest Alpha Hydroxy Acid and is derived from sugar cane. Since it's inception in the 80's, the exfoliating acid has come a long way, becoming an exceptionally popular skincare ingredient and finding itself included in serums, cleansers and masks, as well as in-clinic peel protocols.

Glycolic Acid provides outstanding exfoliating properties, helping to shed dead skin cells to reveal smooth and bright skin beneath. As it is the smallest AHA molecule, it also has the ability to penetrate into skin's deeper layers, helping to minimise fine lines and wrinkles. In today's blog, we are taking a closer look at the new SkinCeuticals Glycolic Acid powerhouse duo and how you can achieve a glowing complexion combining the two

Glycolic Acid concentrations & 'Free Acid Value'

We previously spoke about 'free acid value' back when SkinCeuticals launched their Glycolic 10 Renew Overnight, over on our blog. Free acid value refers to the true strength of a Glycolic Acid product and demonstrates the level of active acid working to promote skin cell renewal. Formulas with a lower pH have a higher free acid value, increasing their strength and effectiveness. So as pH increases, the concentration of Glycolic Acid decreases.

Glycolic Acid concentrations

  • <4% Glycolic Acid - provides low-level exfoliation
  • 4-10% Glycolic Acid - targets signs of ageing, fine lines & dull skin tone
  • 20% Glycolic Acid - requires skin preparation & is used in-clinic only

SkinCeuticals Glycolic Renewal Cleanser

The latest addition to the SkinCeuticals range of incredible products is the Glycolic Renewal Cleanser. The soft-foaming, brightening and exfoliating cleanser is formulated with Glycolic and Phytic Acids to promote cellular turnover, refine skin clarity and effectively rid skin of oil, dirt, debris and long-wear makeup.

Formulated with a high concentration of Glycolic Acid with a free acid value of 8%, the cleanser works to dissolve dead skin cells on skin's uppermost layer, as well as promoting cellular turnover for a refined, brighter and clarified complexion.

SkinCeuticals Glycolic 10 Renew Overnight

This overnight treatment works while you sleep to leave skin smooth and glowing. SkinCeuticals Glycolic 10 Renew Overnight combines 10% Glycolic free acid value with 2% Phytic Acid. Due to the low pH of 3.5, these ingredients can deliver their exfoliating properties more effectively and therefore work better to improve skin tone and texture.

This unique formula helps to promote skin brightness and clarity whilst a specialist Soothing Complex minimises dry patches and prevents inflammation by supporting skin's protective barrier.

Using the Glycolic Duo together

We spoke to the SkinCeuticals experts about using these two products together, here's what they had to say“We recommend pairing Glycolic Renewal Cleanser with our Glycolic 10 Renew Overnight for maximum results. Glycolic 10 Renew Overnight delivers a true 10% Glycolic Acid to skin, working to accelerate cell renewal and promote cellular turnover, revealing brighter, more radiant skin.

SkinCeuticals Glycolic Renewal Cleanser is suitable for use morning and evening. Simply gently massage a small amount of SkinCeuticals Glycolic Renewal Cleanser into a wet face and neck then rinse thoroughly with water and a clean face cloth.

SkinCeuticals Glycolic 10 Renew Overnight should be introduced to skin slowly and gradually. Start by applying a small amount to clean, dry skin on the face and neck every other night for the first week. As skin starts to build up resistance, you can start to apply more regularly, eventually working towards applying every night.
