Could your mobile phone improve your health?

by Thursday, April 30, 2015

phonehealthWe’ve all heard the speculation and media reports of how our favourite handset could be damaging our brain capacity, sleep patterns, social interactions and more importantly future relationships but used in the right way your favourite little screen could actually help you understand and improve your health!

With over 1 million apps available you can now do everything from your weekly grocery shop to designing your own killer workout all from your modern day blower!

You don’t have to be a techno geek to be able to use these either. We have put together a list of our favourite health apps to get you ready for summer! So next time someone tells you to put your phone down tell them you’re prolonging your health, monitoring your heart rate and counting your cardio…they’ll soon back off!

I have put together a list of my favourite applications on the net, and what’s more, they are all free to android and iOS users! No need to thank me, it’s my job! Keeping you in top shape keeps your skin healthy, which in turn makes me very happy…

Good for…fitness

Freeletics- if like me you’re feeling a little less than beach body ready but can’t bare another failed gym membership (and frankly can’t afford one either!) then listen up. This app lets you accentuate your abs and tone up all from the comfort of your home. That’s right, no gym. No judgement when you’re dripping, smelly and looking less than attractive. What’s more, it monitors your workouts and is like having your own personal trainer in your pocket!

Good for…foodies

HealthyOut- love eating out but hate the calories? Join the club… It’s that constant battle we face every day between our love of food and wanting to look slim. But we may have the solution. The guys at HealthyOut have created this fabulous little application to make our nights out a little more guilt free! All you need to do is pop in your postcode or location to find out the best places to eat out, or grab food on the go depending on your dietary requirements! Whether you’re going gluten free, 5:2, swearing off dairy or packing in the protein this handy device will set you on the right path!

Good for…stress busting

Luminosity- developed by a neuroscience student over ten years ago, luminosity provides the very best in brain training technique to help you stay focused. The new app version makes your cranial workout easy when you’re on the go. Just like every other part of our body, if we don’t use it, it gets lazy! With over 40 games designed to challenge your cognitive abilities this is one way to fill your train journeys, long flights or just a quiet afternoon in the office! Just as addictive as candy crush but 10 times more substantial…it’s brain food at its best!

Good for…bedtime

Relax and sleep well- it’s already sounding promising from the name right? 50% of us Britons don’t get the recommended 8 hours shut-eye a night. Sleep deprivation can cause serious health issues as well as mood swings, premature ageing and depression. Bedtime behaviour has always been an issue for me. I often lay awake struggling to shut down my thoughts, ideas and worries. Two years ago I discovered Glenn Harrold one of the UK’s best selling self-help audio writers. Harrold has now developed this 27-minute hypnosis app that creates a state of meditation for your mind. Not only will it relax you into a calm state enabling you to drift off but it also makes for a lasting effect throughout your day.

So, these are my suggestions but what are your favourite health and skincare apps? Why not share them with us!
