We’ve now entered spring and if you want to be really good this Good Friday it’s not only a great time to spring clean your home but also a fantastic time to look at both your wash bag and your make up bag.
With the warmer weather many people will now start to turn to their sunscreens for protection. We recommend that everyone should wear a sun block every day, 365 days of the year but many of us will only look for the sunscreen on a sunny day. 80% of the way we age is through exposure to UVA rays throughout the year and UVB rays can result in permanent damage to the skin.
We don’t have too much bright sunshine in the UK and this can often mean that people are using up remnants of last year’s sunscreen. Many of us are not actually getting the full protection needed as sunscreens have expiry dates and this can vary depending on the brand so it is always worth checking.
Surprising for some, a recent study by net doctor revealed that even on a cloudy day 30-50% of ultraviolet rays can still reach us, depending on how overcast the weather is.
Along with sunblock many of the products you have in both your wash bag and make up bag have expiry dates but not all of them do so we have put together an at a glance guide of what needs replacing and when.
As a rough guide here are the products you should be checking and replacing and at what stage….
- 2 months – Mascara
- 3 months – Liquid gel or eyeliners
- 6 months – Eye shadow
- 6-12 months – liquid foundations, cream blush and any serums or creams
- 1-2 years – powder foundation, powder blush lipstick and nail polish.
Most of these timescales will probably shock you but bacteria can spread so quickly, and in warm wet places it can multiply in the hundreds and thousands. So it’s better to be safe than sorry especially where your eyes and face are concerned.
Often when you find your favourite colour or type of makeup it can be hard to let it go but spring is a brilliant time to check and update your products and make sure they are not doing more harm than good. Many of our favourite products can harbour bacteria that can result in our skin getting little red lumps or break outs
For help with your make up and wash bag give us a call on 0113 282 3300 and we will be happy to offer FREE colour matches for you to update your products seamlessly. You wouldn’t rub dirt onto your face and on your eyes so why chance the spreading of bacteria with old and expired products!
