Is It Time To Simplify Your Skincare Regime?

Is It Time To Simplify Your Skincare Regime?

Long gone are the days of complicated 12-step Korean-esque skincare routines. Now, it's all about simplifying your skincare and getting the most out of each individual step in your regime. Skincare really doesn't have to be confusing, and let's face it; we'd all like to save a bit of time, money and not waste our precious skincare products!

A typical “Korean skincare routine consists of the following steps

  • Cleanse
  • Toner
  • Essence
  • Ampoule
  • Serum
  • Eye cream
  • Moisturiser
  • Sunscreen

Sounds a bit much, right? Well it looks like the way we look after our skin is changing...

According to figures published by Mintel and featured in the September edition of Aesthetic Medicine Magazine, women in the UK are significantly reducing the number of skincare products they use. According to the article, 28% of women have reduced the number of products in their routine over the past year, with 54% of millennial women (aged 20-29) having already removed products from their regime.

Are you interested in streamlining your skincare shelf or is it too much to even consider giving up a couple of your skincare steps? Whether you want to save time, money or your skin from too many products, here's why we prefer a simple and effective regime to a lengthy, longwinded and time consuming 8-step routine

Clinical & multi-tasking formulations

We have long been advocates of using a skincare regime that contains effective active ingredients in cosmeceutical formulas that are clinically proven and genuinely achieve results.

Opt for multi-tasking formulas that provide more than one action, helping you to use fewer products and simplify your skincare regime. For example, you could choose an exfoliating cleanser, such as SkinCeuticals Blemish + AGE Cleansing Gel, which delivers excellent cleansing action whilst also gently exfoliating skin thanks to Alpha Hydroxy Acids. Using a multi-tasking exfoliating cleanser means you don't require an additional exfoliating product, thus saving time and money. Win win!

Are you overloading your skin?

If your skin is normally relatively blemish-free, but you are starting to notice more frequent breakouts, you could be over doing it with your skincare. Other signs of too much skincare or too many skincare products are redness, irritation and inflammation on skin's surface.Another sign of too many skincare products is - pilling. This is when too many different products are applied or products are applied to heavy handed and they start to roll into balls on your skin.

Cut down your products to avoid this and always ensure you are applying apply water-based products before oil based skincare.

Enjoy applying your skincare

It is so important to make sure that you continue to enjoy your skincare regime. So many people follow fad skincare regimes with too many steps that they end up hating it, leaving it behind and completely neglecting their skin.

Treat your morning and evening skincare regimes as the pillars at either end of your day. In the morning you are kick starting your day and ensuring your skin is protected from damaging UV rays. In the evening you are removing SPF, makeup and pollution and preparing your skin for rest and repair.

Listen to your skin

We are not expecting you to throw away all your serums and we certainly don't want you to stop cleansing! Listen to your skin and understand when it needs a little bit extra moisture and when to exfoliate, rather than throwing everything at your face every day.
