What Is EGF?
A protein that’s produced naturally in your body, EGF plays an important role in the growth and regeneration of cells, aiding the formation of collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid to keep your skin firm, bouncy, and healthy.
As we age, this EGF slowly depletes, causing the visible signs of ageing to be more pronounced, leading to a decline in the health and appearance of your skin. BIOEFFECT’s Plant-Based EGF
Developing a way to bioengineer EGF in a now patented process, BIOEFFECT discovered a way to genetically modify barley plants to produce the protein at their lab.
They started the process by first isolating the gene for human EGF, and transferring this gene into barley plants using biolistic transformation, a technique that involves shooting DNA-coated particles into plant cells.
Following the successful gene transfer, the modified plants were then grown in a greenhouse close to BIOEFFECTS Icelandic HQ and once fully fledged, they underwent a purification process, where the EGF protein is carefully extracted from the barley plant, ensuring a high level of purity and efficacy.
Once extracted the purified EGF is then formulated into BIOEFFECT’s EGF serums, face creams, cleansers, masks, and exfoliators, allowing BIOEFFECT to produce some of the best skincare for ageing skin.
