The Hair Growth Cycle Of Your Hair

Your hair has three stages in the hair growth cycle which affect the rate of hair growth and hair loss that you experience.

Anagen
The anagen stage is the growth phase of your hair cycle. This is where the hair bulb divides rapidly to create new hair growth. Your hair then grows from the roots for around two to seven years before your hair follicles become dormant. During this time, you can expect your hair to grow on average between 18-30 inches.

Catagen
The catagen stage is really short compared to the anagen phase, lasting for only around two to three weeks. This is the stage where your hair stops growing and detaches itself from the blood supply. A this stage, the hair is named a club hair.

Telogen
The telogen stage begins with the club hairs resting in the root while your new hair begins to grow beneath it. Taking around three months in this stage, the club hairs eventually begin to fall out to allow the new hair to come through the hair follicle.

Once these three stages have reached completion, your hair enters the exogen phase - here, your hair strands are released from their follicles and fall out. Then the cycle begins all over again and repeats itself throughout your life. .
