366 Days Of SPF: Make SPF Your Daily Habit To Protect Your Skin From Melanoma Skin Cancer

366 Days Of SPF

Are you wearing SPF daily? If not, you're certainly not alone. According to a survey by Melanoma Focus, a huge 32% of UK adults don’t use sunscreen despite most burning at least once per year.* No matter the weather, the sun's harmful UVA rays are ever present throughout the year and cause damage to the DNA in your skin cells as well as premature ageing. Because of this, it’s important to wear your shield of protection every day to protect your skin against the likes of melanoma skin cancer. Enter 366 Days Of SPF.

This year, we're on a huge mission dedicated to revolutionising your sun care routine. Forget the occasional sunscreen slathering reserved for your sunny holidays and join us in making daily sunscreen a habit. It’s time to invest in you and your healthy skincare routine.

Why Is Daily Sunscreen So Important?

Melanoma Focus reports that 1 in 36 men and 1 in 47 women in the UK will be diagnosed with melanoma skin cancer in their lifetime. This is the deadliest form of skin cancer and is in the top five most diagnosed cancers in the UK. Melanoma kills 2,333 people per year, yet 86% of melanomas are preventable, with sunscreen and sun safety measures playing a huge part.

What Is Melanoma?

Melanoma is a serious type of skin cancer. It arises from melanocytes, the cells that produce melanin - the pigment that gives your skin its colour. Whilst it is less common than other skin cancers like basal cell carcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma, melanoma is significantly more dangerous due to its ability to spread rapidly if not caught early.

Susanna Daniels, the CEO of Melanoma Focus says: "about seven people die from melanoma every day in the UK and more people die from melanoma in the UK than in Australia. About 9 in 10 melanoma skin cancer cases are preventable and it is vital that people take the warnings about the dangers of excessive sun exposure and the dangers of sunbed use seriously."

What Puts You At Higher Risk Of Developing Skin Cancer?

Melanoma can be caused from excessive UV light exposure, and having fair skin, a large number of moles, or a family history of melanoma puts you at an increased risk.
