What Is Melanoma?Â

Whilst it is less common than other skin cancers like basal cell carcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma, melanoma is significantly more dangerous due to its ability to spread rapidly if not caught early.
Susanna Daniels, the CEO of Melanoma Focus says: "about seven people die from melanoma every day in the UK and more people die from melanoma in the UK than in Australia. About 9 in 10 melanoma skin cancer cases are preventable and it is vital that people take the warnings about the dangers of excessive sun exposure and the dangers of sunbed use seriously."

Melanoma can be caused from excessive UV light exposure, and having fair skin, a large number of moles, or a family history of melanoma puts you at an increased risk.
