how to get rid of acne

Who Does Acne Affect?

Acne is a common skin concern that affects both women and men. It’s commonly mistaken as a condition that only affects teenagers, but acne does affect adults, too – particularly women who may be experiencing a fluctuation in hormones, especially during the menopause.

How To Treat Acne At Home

Mild acne can often be treated with skincare products containing ingredients such as; salicylic acid to unclog your pores, glycolic acid to resurface your skin, and benzoyl peroxide that works as an antiseptic to reduce the bacteria on your skin and bust blemishes.

What Is Menopause?

Menopause is the process that marks the end of the menstrual cycle. During this time, women experience many changes – particularly when it comes to their skin. One of the most noticeable changes is the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles due to the sharp decline in collagen, a huge 30%, that happens during the first five years of menopause.

Why Is Collagen Important?

Collagen is our main structural protein that’s found everywhere in our bodies. It provides structure and strength within our body and holds our cells together. It also gives our skin elasticity – the more collagen we have, the more youthful and plumped our skin looks.

Anti-Ageing Skincare

As we age, our skin begins to lose collagen, hyaluronic acid, and elastin. At the age of 25, we begin to lose 1.5% of our collagen per year, followed by a 30% decline in the first 5 years of menopause, and 2% per year post-menopause. This leads to our skin losing plumpness and firmness, and we begin to develop fine lines and wrinkles.

Can we reverse skin ageing?

Ageing is influenced by two factors: intrinsic (linked to our family history and genes) and extrinsic (related to environmental factors like diet, lifestyle, and sun damage).
We can’t reverse skin ageing entirely, however, both types of ageing can be treated and vastly improved with specialist skincare and in-clinic treatment programmes. Potent ingredients such as retinol, collagen, peptides, and antioxidants help to increase skin cell production, protect against free radical damage, and lead to a more youthful appearance.

What Is Pigmentation

Pigmentation/Hyperpigmentation is a common skin condition that causes areas of the skin to become darker in colour. Commonly caused over-activity of the skin pigment, melanin, pigmentation varies from solar lentigines (also referred to as age or liver spots) and freckles to melasma, and post inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

How Is Pigmentation Treated?

Pigmentation can be treated at home using potent active ingredients that work to reduce the appearance of dark spots, even skin tone and prevent the synthesis of melanin. There are also a range of in-clinic treatments that help you to achieve your desired results.
