Tried & Tested: Dermaviduals Self Tan Cream

Dermaviduals Self Tan Cream blog imageMany people are shocked when I say this, but winter is my favourite time of year. I love Christmas decorations, cosy blankets and a chunky scarf. My skin on the other hand, does not love winter. Although I’m oily, my skin tends to look dull and get quite dehydrated during a cold snap, leaving me with a less-than-party-ready complexion. I also have some post-acne marks and redness on my cheeks, which for some reason appear more prominent this time of year. So, when the brand new Dermaviduals Self Tan Cream landed on my desk, I just knew I had to try it.

Although not ghostly white, my complexion is quite pale and not being a regular self tanner, I didn’t want to suddenly go three shades darker; I just needed something to even out my complexion and add a little life to my skin. With simple skincare being the philosophy of Dermaviduals, I could rest assured that this product wouldn’t cause any breakouts or irritation to my skin. I also trusted them to give me a gradual, subtle colour rather than anything artificial-looking.

Upon first application, the product comes out as a white cream, similar to that of a usual face moisturiser. The cream smoothes easily onto the skin, allowing for an even and streak-free application, as well as leaving the skin feeling soft and hydrated. The colour builds up gradually over a period of around 8 hours and the next morning I woke up to a subtle hint of colour to my face. I didn’t look like I’d just returned from a fortnight in the Bahamas, but my skin tone was much more even and I didn’t need to apply quite so much foundation, which was the result I was after. I applied the product again the following day to build up a base and then didn’t apply anymore for around 6-7 days and found the colour lasted incredibly well. If you are after a sun kissed glow or are a regular self tanner, you could easily build this product up to a more intense colour, without it going patchy or fading after just a couple of cleanses.

Don’t let the name put you off, this product is way more than just a self tan. It’s a lovely cream that is great for whether you want a golden complexion for a party, or if you want to reduce the appearance of pigmentation conditions such as white spots, vitiligo and age spots.
