As I mentioned last week, we’re offering free consultations for anyone wanting to get ready for party season, or adjust their skincare regime for autumn/winter. I’ve adjusted my skincare regime too and one of the products I’m currently trialling is Dermaviduals DMS Cleansing Milk. So if you want skin as porcelain perfect as Morticia Adams for your Halloween party let me tell you why to consider it:
What’s special about this cleanser?
Well, there’s something very special about it actually. It DOESN’T CONTAIN EMULSIFIERS. If you’re wondering why this is a major plus, I should explain that there’s a growing understanding amongst skincare experts that emulsifiers can actually case a ‘washout’ effect. This means that the natural oils of the skin are emulsified and removed when the product comes into contact with the skin and water.
The easiest way to describe an emulsifier is like the ‘glue’ that binds usually unstable products together (imagine mixing oil and vinegar for a salad dressing and you’ll picture what I mean). The thing is, although the emulsifiers might be doing a great job of stabilizing a product, they’re not necessarily being as helpful to our actual skin.
The DMS of this product stands for Derma Membrane Structure, indicating that the ingredients within it are closely matched to the natural structure and composition of healthy skin. If it’s not healthy to have emulsifiers on the skin, you won’t see it in this product.
What does the lack of emulsifiers mean to the texture?
The lack of emulsifiers in DMS Cleansing Milk means that the texture is different to any cleanser you’ll have tried before. Its fluid-like formula is very light yet creamy. As with all Dermaviduals products it’s unscented, eliminating the risk of irritation from fragrance. It’s also probably worth saying that because this cleanser is so gentle, it’s suitable for all skin types and absolutely ideal for anyone whose skin is easily irritated by products.
Is it worth the hype?
Personally, I really like it. If you’re used to foaming or gel cleansers you may find the experience of using it a little bit underwhelming, but you’ll LOVE the soft, smooth feel of your skin afterwards. Bear in mind that if you wear heavy eye makeup you’ll need to add some of the cleanser to a cotton wool pad (or use an additional pump) to give your eyes a thorough cleanse. This product has quickly become a standard part of my routine and the more I use it, the more I like it.
