At Face the Future we believe in a multi-dimensional approach to treating skin concerns. Although dark under eye circles have long been blamed on a lack of sleep, we know that the eyes are the windows to your soul, so if you’re getting your eight hours but still struggling with dark circles, we are on hand to help!
What causes dark under eye circles?
The main reason for dark circles is simply that the skin under our eyes in incredibly thin; it is around 0.2mm thick compared to an average of 1.4mm thick on the majority of the body. This means the blood vessels below the surface are more visible than anywhere else on the body, which is what gives dark circles their blue-ish tinge.
Ageing causes skin to lose elasticity and become thinner. As the skin under the eye is already very thin, the ageing process can cause these blood vessels to become even more visible and, therefore, dark circles more prominent.
The condition, Periorbital Hyperpigmentation, is where more melanin is produced under the eyes, causing a darker appearance in skin tone. This is a condition that more commonly affects those with darker skin tones, particularly black and Asian skins, and it can be a hereditary condition.
Nutrition and Hydration
Vitamins are needed in our diet for adrenal gland function. When the adrenal gland is fatigued from a lack of vitamins or an excess intake of caffeine, alcohol and sugar, dark circles are enhanced and the face (particularly under the eyes) can become puffy.
Dehydration causes blood vessels to dilate and swell and, as we know the skin under the eyes is so thin, these dilated vessels become much more visible. Drinking plenty of water and eating a diet of lean meat, fish, fruit and vegetables will not only help with skin under the eyes, but will improve general skin health.
Common allergies such as hayfever, food allergies and allergens around the home can worsen the appearance of dark circles. Allergies cause inflammation and enlarge blood vessels, leaving them pressing against the delicate under eye skin. If you do suffer with allergies that cause irritation to the eye, avoid rubbing them. Rubbing or scratching can break the tiny capillaries, resulting in even darker discolouration and puffiness.
There are a number of reasons behind dark circles, so try to narrow down what your cause may be. It could be that allergy tablets or upping your water intake will help.

For everyday use…
Our ethos and approach to treating skin means taking care of it from the outside AND the inside. These daily supplements help to improve microcirculation around the eye, prevent puffiness, reduce baggy under eyes and contribute to a well-rested, uniform tone.
They are formulated with evening primrose oil, hyaluronic acid and resveratrol and are ideal for people with signs of fatigue and those looking to treat or prevent puffy or baggy eyes with dark circles.
This next generation eye cream offers a multi-action approach to treating concerns around the eye area. Collagen 360 Degree Eye Contour works to diminish the visible signs of ageing around the eye by stimulating the regeneration of collagen.
The intensive cream works deep in the fibroblast cells, stimulating the natural production of healthy collagen to plump and strengthen the skin. Osilift, an advanced tensing agent, rapidly firms the eye area, smoothing out any expression lines and wrinkles. A high concentration of Argireline plumps and deeply hydrates the skin. Tissue can often get damaged as collagen decreases, so added Matrixyl supports the communication of messages within the cells to encourage repair.

First up, apply the Skyn ICELAND Brightening Eye Serum. This lightweight serum is enriched with peptides and age-fighting active ingredients to offer targeted wrinkle repair, intense hydration and improved firmness and elasticity with continued use.
The advanced delivery system deposits peptides to the specific neurons/muscles that cause wrinkles and expression lines. The active ingredients then work to relax these muscles and inhibit the production of wrinkles.
The Brightening Eye Serum acts as a supercharged eye primer serum designed to optimise the immediate de-puffing, line-smoothing and eye-brightening action of the Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels.
The cutting-edge cooling transdermal gel patches with Hexapeptide technology works intensively to firm, de-puff and reduce premature wrinkles in the under-eye area. After just 10 minutes, the eye area is infused with an intense dose of calming and cooling ingredients.
Ginkgo biloba leaf extract dilates blood vessels to improve blood flow and help reduce puffiness, whilst acetyl hexapeptide technology inhibits muscle stimulation mechanisms to reduce the formation of fine lines.
Powerful antioxidant Co-enzyme Q10 prevents the breakdown of collagen and elastin to ensure a firmer under-eye area that is protected against further damage.
This multi-tasking product ticks all the boxes for concerns around the eye area. The chemical-free eye corrector protects the delicate skin around the eyes against UVA and UVB rays as well as environmental stressors that contribute to skin ageing.
Once applied the eye area is immediately brightened and imperfections are corrected, reducing dark circles and puffiness for a refreshed and rested eye area.
A combination of sea water and marine microalgae protects skin from impurities while also addressing skin laxity and under-eye bags by helping support the production of collagen, to ultimately increase firmness around the delicate eye area.
