Melasma & Chloasma at Face the Future

Skin Peels Pigmentation LeedsMelasma & Chloasma
Melasma is a skin condition presenting as brown patches on the face of adults. Both sides of the face are usually affected. The most common sites of involvement are the cheeks, bridge of nose, forehead, and upper lip. Melasma usually occurs in women. Only 10% of those affected are men. Dark-skinned races, particularly Hispanics, Asians, Indians, people from the Middle East, and Northern Africa, tend to have melasma more than others.

The precise cause of this condition is unknown. People with a family history of melasma are more likely to develop it themselves. A change in hormonal status may also be a trigger. It is commonly associated with pregnancy, where it is called chloasma, or the “mask of pregnancy.” Birth control pills may also be a cause, however, though hormone replacement therapy used after menopause has not been shown to cause the condition.

Age spots, Liver spots and Freckles
As we age, lifestyle choices, environmental damage and sun exposure all take their toll on our skin. Age spots, freckles, lines and wrinkles can all be signs of premature ageing and damage caused by the type of environment we live in and the lifestyle choices that we make.

What is the treatment method?
The TCA peel works by gently removing the upper layers of the epidermis. These are the layers that are at risk from the environment such as the sun damage, pollution and extremes of temperature. By removing these upper layers, the overall texture of the skin can be improved dramatically, smoothing out wrinkles and other irregularities.

Please note that TCA peels are also used in Acne treatments to assist with Acne management and scar reduction.

What results can I expect to see?
A fresher, more vibrant complexion can be achieved. Wrinkles can be softened and skin irregularities evened out. Age spots, liver spots and freckles are diminished and brightness restored.

Please note that TCA peels can also help reduce Acne spots and scars reduced, as part of an Acne Treatment regime.
