Care Quality Commission

The Care Quality Commission is the independent watchdog for healthcare in England. The Care Quality Commission assess and report on the quality and safety of services provided by the NHS and the independent healthcare sector, and work to improve services for patients and the public.

When registering independent providers, the Care Quality Commission ensures that they meet the minimum standard of practice. This includes the quality of treatment, checks of premises and equipment, qualifications and skills of staff, policies and procedures, training and professional development, and complaints procedures.

The aim of the Care Quality Commission is to safeguard patients and promote continuous improvement in healthcare services for patients, carers and the public through annual checks. Against set targets it inspects the quality and value for money of healthcare and public health and performance using standards set out by the Department of Health and best available evidence. Ultimately the Care Quality Commission endeavour to provide people with the most complete picture available of how your local healthcare organisations are performing.
