Stretch Marks

Stretch marks are an extremely common type of scar and can affect men and woman of all ages. They are usually associated with rapid growth and occur commonly during puberty and pregnancy. They can also be a by-product of either excess weight gain or rapid weight loss and can leave an unsightly meshing of small scars, that can cause distress and anxiety.

Stretch marks occur when the skin is overstretched or as a result of rapid growth or increased oestrogen levels, as within pregnancy.

To reduce stretch marks, the skin needs to be repaired with the appropriate products and treatments. The results can be pleasing, offering measurable results as long as the right programme has been performed. Treatment programmes used and results achieve will depend on the age of the scar and the colour, however a good reduction can be achieved.

In the beginning, a stretch mark is normally purple and the best time to be treated, however if left the scar will change white and proves more difficult to treat. This is because blood vessels will narrow over time, making it harder to stimulate collagen production.
