IHAS
There has been much in the media over the past few weeks, relating to the safety of non surgical treatments, such as Botox and Dermal Fillers.
A register of Clinics and Independent Practitioners has been established by the ‘Independent Health Advisory Scheme’ (IHAS) and can be found at www.treatmentsyoucantrust.co.uk. It is hoped this register will provide a valuable resource, enabling potential patients to check whether a Clinic or Practitioner has the appropriate qualifications, experience and the standards of health and safety, needed for safe practice in this field of non surgical treatments.
Face the Future has been registered with the Care Quality Commission for over 5 years and is now undertaking the registration for the ‘Independent Health Advisory Scheme’. Kate Bancroft, their in house Aesthetics Nurse, has over 20 years nursing experience and been practicing in the field of aesthetics for over 6 years. She also has a BSc (Hon) in Healthcare and is a qualified teacher and trainer. As an Independent Nurse Prescriber, Kate has a wealth of experience and you can always be assured that you see the same experienced Nurse, each time you visit the Clinic.
Although the IHAS register is not a perfect solution to the registration of non surgical providers, it is certainly a step in the right direction. Hopefully, in time, it will offer potential users of non surgical procedures a central point to check out qualifications, relevant experience and credibility of Clinics and Practitioners.

New Skin Brands

Care Quality Commission
The Care Quality Commission have deregulated Class 4 Lasers and IPL Systems. In reality this means that there is no regulating body acting on behalf of patients, within the rapidly growing aesthetic market. Often aggressive cosmetic laser treatments such as skin resurfacing, thread vein removal and hair removal can cause pain, discomfort and occasionally long term problems such as scarring and hypo or hyper pigmentation, if not carried out in a safe and professional way by a suitably qualified and trained clinician.
The fact that these treatments will no longer be regulated is alarming and already new clinics are setting up using cheaper, imported machines and operated by untrained or poorly trained staff. We have already seen an increase in telephone calls from patients of other newly established clinics or mobile units, asking for advise re burns and pigmentation changes. Established clinics who have followed previous Health Care Commission regulations are genuinely concerned about lack of regulation, especially as the government has recently invested funds in the newly established Independent Health Advisory Scheme, which will help with the regulation of other cosmetic treatments, such as Botox and Dermal Fillers.

Introducing our NEW Tattoo Removal Laser

Be aware of fake Dermamelan products
We were recently contacted by someone who purchased Dermamelan maintenance cream from ebay and was concerned as to the authenticity of the product. The cream, was an unusual colour and looked different to previous products purchased.
We suggested the client posted the product out to us for closer scrutiny. On closer inspection of the product (see below how the tampered Dermamelan compares to our authentic Dermamelan) it is obvious the right hand jar is not authentic.
As you can see, it looks like the maintenance cream has had some other product mixed and added to the residual of the original product. It is quite difficult in this example to establish if the product is genuine because the retailer has used genuine dermamelan packaging but the contents are not genuine.
The person who bought this product from ebay is now currently in a dispute with the buyer to get her money back (which is proving difficult and time consuming). She bought the item from an ebay seller based in Belgium and there are other sellers from around the world selling these products on ebay, and other non authorised websites.
If you are buying products please ensure you know the source because you can make the pigmentation far worse if its not the correct product.
