Memo to clients from the Face the Future reception
Many people ask us on reception what are the latest treatments and which celebrities are having what treatments around the world (and sometimes here at our clinic!!).
As you will be aware, Face the Future always like to be the first to bring you new advances and ideas on skin care and age management. Well now we have a clinic Facebook page and a Twitter page (that Kate our RGN updates) for you to be able to find out first hand all the latest news on new treatments and products straight to your laptop or phone!
Also on our pages watch out for all the hints and tips we offer along with Questions and Answer sessions with our Nurse and Clinicians. We will also from time to time place advertisements for “Guinea Pigs” to try our new treatments and to test new ranges of products for the clinic, something not to be missed as these adverts can only be seen by our Twitter followers and those who ‘like’ our page on Facebook.
We know it’s a scary thought but we are coming up to Christmas (it’s only September but Debenhams have already got their Christmas decorations on sale, it comes round quicker every year!). We will be putting special offers on for our facials to make sure that you are ready for the celebrations. At the moment we are currently taking appointments for December and as the Clinic closes on the 17th of December for two weeks at Christmas please don’t miss out and prevent disappointment by getting your appointments booked early. The weeks leading up to Christmas are our busiest time of year and due to the nature of many of our treatments advanced booking are always recommended!

DMK Cosmetic Range
We were all very excited earlier this month when Sue from DMK UK (Danne Montague King) came to the clinic.
Sue came to demonstrate and show us the way with a new OIL FREE range of cosmetics now being used all over the world by Danne clients and many top celebrities.
The new range includes 5 different skin tone colours which includes Naturelle, Olive, Ebony, International and the Shinto Series and another five colours within those series to get the perfect tone match for you.
Danne Montague King visits Face the Future
On Friday 1st July 2011, Dr Danne Montague King visited the Face the Future, as part of his UK tour. Dr King is a world renowned skin chemist and his treatments and accompanying skin products have world wide acclaim. Unlike many other skin brands, the results achieved with DMK paramedical skin treatments are measurable and often life changing, with real solutions to skin problems such as Acne, Rosacea and Age Management.
DMK is probably the only stand alone paramedical skin system that achieves such amazing results. However, as technology also improves it is interesting to see other treatment modalities that can further enhance improvements. Dr Kings visit incorporated a talk about the changing face of the skin industry and how combination treatments are gaining results hitherto thought impossible. Combining Danne treatments with other modalities such as Dermaroller, increase result potential and often speed up improvements for the patient. Dr King also discussed their new make up range (shortly arriving in clinic), which looks to have great potential in terms of both skin camouflage and skin health.
Dr King spent the rest of the afternoon chatting with staff and patients and enthralling us with stories of past cases and celebrities who have received the benefits of Danne Treatments (many of the top names in film and theatre).
Everyone had a great afternoon and luckily for us the weather was beautiful and we all retired to the garden for a glass of champagne and nibbles.
Thank you to Dr King for his visit and his inspiration in terms of skin care. DMK remains the cornerstone of treatments at Face the Future and we are looking forward to new treatment combinations in the coming year.

The Fire and Ice Facial
The Fire and Ice Facial, otherwise known, as the ‘Hollywood Red Carpet Facial’ is the secret weapon in the beauty arsenal of some of Hollywood’s top names, including Halle Berry, Gwyneth Paltrow and Evangeline Lily. Its known in LA as the ‘Red Carpet Treatment’ for its instant brightening, tightening and smoothing effect. Not a feel good salon facial, this is an intensive clinical treatment designed to resurface the skin, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, smooth and soften, while encouraging cellular renewal and repair.
The fire part of the facial is an Intensive Resurfacing Masque clinically formulated with 18% un-buffered glycolic acid, lactic acid, citric acid and malic acid, retinol, vitamin B3 and potent antioxidants, including green tea extracts. The ice part of the facial is a cool rejuvenating masque that soothes and intensely hydrates the skin, using hyaluronic acid, aloe vera, grape-seed and rosemary extract.

Fake Obagi Products – PLEASE READ
Last year, you may have seen our blog posts on fake Dermamelan products. Fake products are becoming more common now, not just in the skin care industry but also in many other trades. At Face the Future, we want to make sure you are buying the correct products, from authorised UK stockists at realistic prices.
Counterfeiters are now copying the Obagi brand. We recently had a customer approach us, after she purchased some Obagi products from Hong Kong (they were slightly cheaper). After using the products, she had a severe reaction to her skin. She sent the products to us to verify them and we confirmed they were indeed copies. As the packaging is near identical to the original products, it is extremely difficult for the general public to tell the difference, until it is too late, so please be careful.
Here’s a guide to help you decide if the online retailer is legitimate and the products are genuine:
1. Does the price of the product seem too cheap? Remember, if something sounds too good to be true, then it usually is.
2. Is the seller an authorised stockist? You can usually verify the seller with the product manufacturer, or UK distributor.
3. Is the seller registered with the Care Quality Commission? This confirms the seller is a registered health care specialist, and therefore works to strict standards.
4. Does the seller have a physical clinic? We stock high strength products, which contain active ingredients, which are not available on the high street. You can only become an authorised stockist of these kinds of products if you have a clinic, with trained practitioners available for client consultation.
5. Is the seller in the UK? Remember, UK consumer laws do not cover you if there is a problem with products purchased abroad, or which are indeed fake. Also in most cases, a product can look cheap but then you may be charged duty when it comes into the UK.
6. Does the website seem trustworthy? Customers shopping on the internet can be immediately drawn in because, the price is shown in GBP and the prices seem cheap. You should always look for a UK telephone number and UK address. There are websites selling prescription strength products for UK consumers that are actually in Hong Kong and South Africa, with no guarantees the products are even genuine.
7. Are you buying from eBay? eBay is great for finding a bargain, but would you risk buying a product from a seller, with no health care credentials or skin clinic history, who are selling products from their garage just to save yourself a few pounds? There are a number of eBay users selling fake Obagi products, with no guarantee where they have come from except the sellers “word”.
8. Finally, if you are buying products, particularly for the face, don’t take any chances. You only get one face, look after it!

IHAS
There has been much in the media over the past few weeks, relating to the safety of non surgical treatments, such as Botox and Dermal Fillers.
A register of Clinics and Independent Practitioners has been established by the ‘Independent Health Advisory Scheme’ (IHAS) and can be found at www.treatmentsyoucantrust.co.uk. It is hoped this register will provide a valuable resource, enabling potential patients to check whether a Clinic or Practitioner has the appropriate qualifications, experience and the standards of health and safety, needed for safe practice in this field of non surgical treatments.
Face the Future has been registered with the Care Quality Commission for over 5 years and is now undertaking the registration for the ‘Independent Health Advisory Scheme’. Kate Bancroft, their in house Aesthetics Nurse, has over 20 years nursing experience and been practicing in the field of aesthetics for over 6 years. She also has a BSc (Hon) in Healthcare and is a qualified teacher and trainer. As an Independent Nurse Prescriber, Kate has a wealth of experience and you can always be assured that you see the same experienced Nurse, each time you visit the Clinic.
Although the IHAS register is not a perfect solution to the registration of non surgical providers, it is certainly a step in the right direction. Hopefully, in time, it will offer potential users of non surgical procedures a central point to check out qualifications, relevant experience and credibility of Clinics and Practitioners.
