The Danné Alkaline Wash system is a remarkable treatment designed to reduce fine, downy facial hair. This type of hair is very difficult to remove as the hair growth is usually dense and would take a long time to treat with electrolysis and impossible to treat with laser. The advantage of Alkaline is that you can remove large areas of hair in one treatment with no discomfort as with other hair removal systems.

Alkaline Wash is an Alkaline powder which is mixed into a paste and applied to the skin for approximately 3-4 minutes. The treatment works by taking the hair to a high Alkaline level. This will dissolve the hair, part of the underlying follicle and is totally pain free. After the first treatment the hair will grow back at its normal rate, but as treatments progress the regrowth rate will become slower and slower usually resulting in permanent loss over a period of time.

As a specialist in hair removal using the Alkaline Wash System I am often asked a number of questions about different aspects of removing hair using Alkaline. Here are the FAQs for Danné Alkaline Wash:

How many treatments will I need before the hair is permanently removed?
It is impossible to estimate how many treatments are needed as permanent removal is dependant on many things i.e. How the hair was previously treated, how long it has been there, the reasons for the hair growth. Some clients report a reduction in hair growth after just one treatment, however there’s no guarantee as every client’s skin is different.

How long does each treatment take?
The treatment usually takes ½ hour.

Why do I need a patch test prior to treatment?
The patch test is usually carried out on the area to be treated and ensures that your skin is suitable for the Alkaline treatment.

Are there any side effects?
The treatment is totally pain-free, however in some cases the area can appear red and warm. This is normal and will subside in a short period of time.

Which area of my face can be treated?
Any areas of the face can be treated provided the hair is of a suitable type.

How often should I have treatment?
After your first Alkaline Wash the hair will grow back at its normal rate. But as treatments progress, the re-growth rate will become slower and slower and your time between treatments will increase.

Will the treatment stimulate the hair?
No, as the Alkaline has a dissolving and damaging effect on the follicle it is impossible to stimulate hair growth.

The benefits to having Alkaline Wash Treatment are:

The treatment is pain free

Large areas can be removed in one treatment

Ideal for people who are not suitable for other hair removal methods, such as waxing, electrolysis, and laser.

Can lead to permanent hair removal

If you think that you’re a candidate for Alkaline Wash Treatment or even if you’re not sure, Face the Future offer a free consultation, whereby one of our specialist clinicians can assess the hair type and conclude the best treatment for you. As we offer a vast array of hair removal methods, so whatever the hair type we are sure to find a treatment for you.

Call the clinic today on 0113 282 3300 to arrange your free consultation.

Most clients we see have usually been ‘THINKING’ about having a more permanent solution for months. If I said ‘Laser Hair Removal‘…… most would think it a little scary.

It’s not….really, we have the most up to date lasers in the area, with the Soprano XL Pain Free Laser, the Long Pulsed N:d Yag as well the IPL (Intense Pulsed Light). All three are excellent for most clients with the exception of White, Blonde, Silver and Ginger hair colours, which can be removed by other means such as electrolysis, and we have done thousands of treatments with all lasers since they were introduced to the clinic.

Right, so you want to know what happens, then I can tell you. Telephone the clinic on 0113 282 3300 and our experience clinicians will make you an appointment for a FREE consultation and if required a patch test. (We are very flexible with our appointment times as we are open 6 days a week and work 3 late nights until 9pm, with FREE parking and extremely easy access off J30 M62).

Consultations are done to make sure you are suitable for treatment. We check the hair area, medication, skin type and make sure you understand how it works. There’s no point treating the area if you are not going to get a satisfactory result. If we are BOTH happy to go ahead, a patch test will be done. This means that we can see how your skin reacts and that the correct settings are applied to get the best results, and you will know what happens when you have treatment. We are all different so each client will have their own personalised ‘comfortable and effective’ setting.

We treat from face to toes and everything in between, so don’t be shy, your treatment will be discreet and your ‘modesty’ will be covered up as much as possible.

This time of year is the perfect time to start a session of treatments, as laser hair removal can not be performed when tanned, or false tanned. We will all be covering up for the next few months, so what’s stopping you, come on. Also, if you have patches that need treating, you don’t have to have the whole area done, just let us know. For example lower legs, or just chin area. All the information provided here applies to ladies and gents.

The most popular areas for the gents are back, chest, arms and facial, and some men just want a slight reduction, so you can have as many treatments as you want. Normally most areas will require at least 6-10 sessions, and you would attend clinic usually every 4 to 6 weeks.

If you are still ‘THINKING’ about it, come for a consultation, we don’t have any pushy sales people, we don’t need to. If you don’t want to go ahead, you don’t have to, but I bet you a thousand hairs you will !!!

If this blog has helped reassure you, please tell reception when you contact our clinic.

All Lasers and IPL’s work in the same way, though some are more powerful than others. The light source heats up the pigment in the hair shaft and transfers the heat down the hair shaft, to the follicle, where it damages or destroys the area of the hair responsible for growth. Ideally the hair should be cut or shaved short, (not waxed, plucked or threaded) so the heat from the laser can travel the shortest distance to the hair follicle. Laser or IPL will only work on dark coarse hair. There is currently no laser, in the world, that will permanently reduce white, blond or red hair, despite what many laser hair removal clinics will tell you. Similarly, the hair must be coarse enough to transfer the heat to the follicle and results will be less impressive if the hair is fine and poor if the hair is vellus. The coarser and darker the hair and the paler the skin, the better the result will be.

Successful results will depend on the type of hair to be treated, the quality of the laser machine being used and the experience of the laser operator. Usually between 6 and 12 sessions is needed for maximum reduction, though if the hair is facial, it is common to need to top up treatments each year. It is not possible to promise complete ‘removal of hair’, as often hairs can lay dormant for years and may not be active at time of treatment. Also, laser technology has only been used to remove hair for approximately 10 years and no one knows if the follicle can in fact, over time repair itself.

Recognised Lasers / IPL Systems:

It is generally accepted that Lasers are a more effective method of hair removal than IPL. IPL’s are often used, as they are a slightly safer option for some skin types, however, generally Lasers have more power and often offer more flexibility in terms of treatment options.

Some of the more effective systems are listed below;

Diode Laser

Yag Laser

Q Switched Ruby Laser

Alexandrite Laser

There are also now variations of Lasers available such as the Soprano ‘Pain Free’ Laser, which is a Diode Laser which can be ‘switched’ into a pain free mode for the more sensitive patient.

Most reputable clinics offering laser hair removal will have several lasers in situ, so patients can be reassured that the best laser, for their individual skin colour and hair type, can be utilised.

Contact Face the Future on 0113 282 3300 for more honest information on hair removal, with NO pushy sales.

There are many different ways of removing hair, some temporary and some permanent. Here at Face the Future we specialise in permanent hair reduction, which is ideal for people who no longer want to deal with unwanted hair.

Lots of people shave, pluck and wax without realizing that by doing this they will actually stimulate hair growth!

If you suffer from thick dark hair in any area we offer IPL (intense pulsed light) laser hair removal, to remove the hair permanently. This is available for both men and women and works by the IPL emitting a broad spectrum of light directly into the hair follicle. The light energy turns to heat energy and damages or destroys the hair follicle resulting in permanent reduction in hair.

Areas that can be treated include faces, chests, backs, legs, bikini and underarms plus many more. Clients with dark course hair will achieve better results and the IPL will pick up the pigment in the hair much easier. Clients with fairer hair will still get results but many need a few more treatments. Six to ten sessions are normally recommended with 4-6 week intervals depending on the area being treated, so if you want hair free legs for your summer holidays, you should start your treatments soon.
We also offer treatment for the removal of unwanted fine downy hair. Alkaline wash will remove hair from any area of the body and is particularly effective on fine downy hair. Colour is not an issue and results depend on the texture of the hair. Alkaline wash turns the PH of the skin and hair from 5.5 to 12 resulting in the hair follicles being damaged. This is a pain free and effective way of removing unwanted fine downy hair and usually results in permanent hair loss over a period of time.

Our other effective hair removal treatment is advanced electrolysis, which results in permanent hair removal and is particularly effective on grey, stubborn and strong hair. This is a safe and comfortable method and gets effective results. Tissue destruction is caused at the base of the follicle which weakens the hair inhibiting the growth.

If you are considering permanent hair removal and want your body / face to be ready for in time for the summer (it will soon be here!), call us today on 0113 282 3300 to see what treatment will be best for your skin and hair type.

Industry insiders have expressed concerns that Which? research stating that millions of British women are putting themselves at risk owing to their lack of awareness about laser hair removal, could generate unnecessarily scaremongering stories.

Which?, the consumer watchdog, said that of the estimated six million British women considering laser, 74% were unaware that having a natural tan could affect the procedure and just over two thirds did not realise that a fake tan would make a difference to the effects of laser on their skin. The research also found that over half of the women were unaware that a heart condition could cause complications and 65% were unaware that diabetes as well as certain medications could influence treatment.

However, although they welcome the support Which? has given in campaigning against laser deregulation, some industry players have expressed concerns that the headline-grabbing agenda of the press could see the research being used to create a negative and unfair portrayal of the cosmetic laser industry.

It is interesting that Which? has come up with this research, but I think they are barking up the wrong tree!

First and fore most Which? need to highlight the fact that all laser hair removal clinics should be healthcare registered by law. If the consumer has laser hair removal at a healthcare registered clinic the operator will be trained and fully aware of the contraindications mentioned in the report.

All Healthcare registered clinics, including Face the Future, follow very strict guidelines / procedures and protocols to ensure laser is as safe as it can be and certainly any type of tan on the skin (including fake tan) means we cannot carry out the procedure until the tan has faded.

My advice to potential laser consumers is check if the clinic is registered and then use your instinct if the clinic is dirty, you are not comfortable with the staff, the staff cannot answer your questions or you are generally not happy try somewhere else, its your body, you only have one, so look after it.

Here at Face the Future we offer one of the most popular and effective treatments for permanently reducing hair, Laser Hair Removal.

This method of laser hair removal is an excellent solution for the removal of unwanted hair and can permanently reduce the hair on back, face, legs, underarm, bikini line, buttocks and actually almost all areas of the body.

One of our recent clients was Susan from York. Susan had been troubled with unsightly hair on her chin for years and felt embarrassed by the fact that she had to shave most mornings. She contacted us here at Face the Future and had a consultation and patch test. Following discussion Susan felt comfortable with information provided from us, the confidence from our nurses and our extremely competitive prices, so decided to go ahead with treatment. Susan was amazed at how quickly she got results and after only four sessions could definitely notice a change. Since attending the clinic, Susan has now decided to go ahead and have her underarms, bikini line and legs all treated.

Laser hair removal works better on dark coarse hair – the darker the hair the better the results. It feels slightly uncomfortable (similar to waxing) but the beauty is that after a course of treatment results are permanent. Treatments can take between 15mins to an hour dependent on the area being treated .

If you’re thinking about having Laser Hair Removal, why not give us a call today and discuss your requirements. After all summers only around the corner and wouldn’t it be good to not have the problems that occur with constant shaving/waxing i.e. ingrowing hairs, stubble, rash!

We have many men and women visit our clinic from all over the UK, and the results speak for themselves. Try Laser Hair Removal and and enjoy the results.
