Sun Damage Part Three
If, over the years we have sustained damage to our skins, is it possible to repair and improve our skins health and condition?
Typical signs of sundamage include:
* Pigmentation and irregular freckling.
* Premature ageing of the skin, leading to significant lines and wrinkes.
* Loss of collagen and elastin, leading to poor structural integrity.
* Vascular damage, thread veins to the face, neck and decolletage.
These issues can be addressed successful and skin can be improved drastically by using a combination of treatments. It is always better to seek professional advice to repair sundamage, however the following is a brief guide of tips that can improve skin drastically.
1. To repair the skin, we need to use products that are ‘active’ and have a positive effect not only on the surface of the skin but also at a deeper dermal cellular level. Topical Vitamin A is a fantastic way of improving skin health, reducing pigmentation and improving collagen production. It is important to use the right strength of Vitamin A, my preference being for Danne Montague King’s Retosin or Obagi’s prescription strength Tretinoin.
Sun Damage Part Two
So, if we have a basic understanding of the damage that can be caused by UV Rays, what measures can we take to help protect the skin from further damage?
Use a good sunscreen. There are many excellent sun screens on the market and it is important to find one you like, that feels comfortable on your skin. Sunscreens have improved massively over the last few years and I particularly like the Danne Montague King and Heliocare sunscreens. Both provide excellent protection, include antioxidants, are non greasy and do not leave a white residue on the skin. Sunscreen should be re applied on a regular basis, to ensure safety and efficacy.
Eat plenty of antioxident rich foods, that is foods, containing Vitamin A, C and E. Taking a Vitamin supplement can also help provide additional protection to the skin and help in the repair process.
Baby Botox has arrived just in time for christmas…
Do you want a natural reduced wrinkle look? Perhaps the brand new Baby Botox technique is the answer. Kate, our registered nurse prescriber and Botox expert is fully trained with all the latest Botox techniques, that includes the effective but more natural ‘Baby Botox’ treatment. This treatment achieves lovely soft results with a more natural feel.
This technique has been developed after Martin Scorsese (movie director) complained too many actresses were presenting themselves with a “frozen” look, which affected their ability to show emotion during filming, hence Baby Botox was born – a more natural look.
Baby Botox involves tiny doses of Botox injected into the usual areas which allows more movement but gives a very natural look. This is particularly useful for clients considering Botox for the first time. You may have to return for the next treatment after 3 months but in time the results start to last a lot longer. This treatment also helps avoid the shiny forehead look (when too much Botox inhibits the sweat glands) and also helps avoid too much of an elevated eyebrow lift.
What is the Elastiderm Decolletage System?
The Elastiderm Decolletage System is a revolutionary skincare system designed to reduce hyper-pigmentation, age spots and the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on the delicate chest and neck area.
In your early 20’s your body stops producing elastin, a protein that helps make the skin firm, smooth, flexible and resistant to wrinkling. Over time, sun exposure and the normal aging process contribute not only to the loss of elastin and collagen but also the emergence of hyper-pigmentation and age spots.
A lifetime of exposure to the sun and harsh environmental elements can accelerate the aging process, leaving skin with hyper-pigmentation, age, freckles, fine lines and wrinkles. The skin on your chest and neck, is particularly vulnerable to visible ageing, since it tends to be thinner, less moisturized and often overlooked in the sun protection regimen. The result is a noticeable contrast between the youthful, protected skin on your face and the discoloured, damage skin on your chest.
Non Surgical Facelift
As we age, we lose volume from the central portion of our face. Our cheeks lose the plumpness associated with youth, our nose to lip lines become deeper and our mouth corners start to pull downwards. This gives the impression of a grumpy, discontented appearance.
New Juvederm Ultra 4 (with local anaesthetic) can greatly improve this negative effect of ageing. Juvederm very subtly improves and softens facial lines and folds, adds lift and volume and gives back that youthful contour.
The new needle free alternative to Botox and Fillers
Radiance BX Finishing Lines DMAE Serum, is an intensive topical cocktail of aesthetic medicines most age defying ingredients, including DMAE, acetyl hexapeptide 3, hyaluronic acid, vitamin C and avena sativa kernal extract. Together, this cocktail provides peak cellular function , contracts and tightens facial muscles, minimises discoloration and puffiness and maximises hydration levels for skin that looks luminous, lifted, firm and smooth.
The in clinic treatment consists of 5 treatments, one week apart, used in conjunction with the home care serum. The results are measurable and not only will your skin look and feel great but photographic evidence will show the positive results of this new treatment option.
Introducing NIR Skin Tightening
NIR or near infra red skin tightening is a new light based solution for tightening sagging skin, without surgery or downtime. This procedure gives tightening of the skin utilising safe, infrared light that triggers a biological response. This response leads to collagen remodeling in the deeper dermal layers and can help smooth out fine wrinkles and sagging skin.
Infrared light heats the tissue deep below the skins surface causing collagen fibres to contract, tighten and stimulate new growth, creating long term results. The bodies own natural healing process also starts to produce new collagen, to continue improvement over subsequent months.
Collagen and Elastin
Whether we consider the skin on our face or body, everyone knows that collagen is important for the skin. Indeed it is the principle structural protein holding the skin together. The quantity and quality of your skins collagen has a major role in your appearance. Therefore it may be tempting to think that getting collagen into your skin could lead to dramatic rejuvenating effects. While there is a grain of truth in that, things are more complicated than they seem.
Collagen is not like most proteins, which are essentially compact molecular clumps – it is basically a fibre, or when fully mature, a mesh of fibres. Not surprisingly, collagens composition is also unusual. It is particularly rich in four amino acids, lysine, proline, hydroxylsine and hydroxyproline.
NEW – Restylane Lidocaine – Pain Free Fillers
Face the Future now has another top of the range filler product available at our clinic. Restylane have now introduced Restylane Lidocaine and Restylane Perlane Lidocaine, which is “Restylane – now with pain relief”.
These two products, which are used for dermal fillers, include 0.3% lidocaine to give our clients a comfortable filler treatment session which is less painful and similar to that of juvederm ultra.
Lidocaine was first synthesised in 1943 by the chemist Nils Löfgren in Stockholm. Together with his colleague Bengt Lundqvist, they developed one of the swiftest and safest local anaesthetics.
Radio Frequency (RF) for Skin Tightening
It’s finally arrived, the very latest skin tightening machine from Japan. The RF2241 has been developed over a period of 10 years and we are all very excited to be one of the first clinics in the UK to have taken delivery of this fantastic machine.
The RF works by penetrating the skin by up to 50mm into the subcutaneous layer contracting the collagen strands using radio frequency heat waves. During the process the machine stimulates new collagen production, which in turn smooths the surface skin, reducing lines and wrinkles and provides immediate skin tightening and further long term tightening effects.
