Are you a Product Junkie? It's Time to Take Your Skin to Rehab

Deny it all you want but no matter how hard you try, you can't resist the latest product to hit the shelves. However, you find they promise the world and deliver less than an island. This little obsession could be damaging more than just your bank account. Product swapping, or switchers as I like to call them, often struggle to get a result of any kind with their skin. I explain to my clients that skin is very much like a baby and needs routine.

The life cycle of a skin cell takes on average 8 weeks from birth to it hardening and shedding; I recommend allowing 3 skin cycles to take place when starting a new regime before throwing it into the bin, swiping left and moving on. We expect everything right now and have shorter attention spans than ever before. Unfortunately skin hasn't quite caught up with the memo and quick fixes are always short lived.

Have a bathroom detox

Autumn is the perfect time to clear out the cupboards in prep for the big C and more importantly our favourite limited edition Christmas packages.

Check your products are in date

Most 'active' ingredients have a shelf life. It's important not to use cosmetics after this date. They should be stored in cool, dark place to prevent them from oxidising or been damaged from UV light.

Don't double up on ingredients

I see this so many times when my patients have been given ill advice on products and they can be using two of the same thing, which leads to aggravation. In some cases certain ingredients cancel each other out which could mean you're spending a lot of money on something that isn't even working.

Think ACE when it comes to vitamins

Most good skincare regimes will include a vitamin A, C and E. Of course there are a few exceptions to the rule, which is why we always advise a consultation prior to purchasing!

If it looks too good to be true, unfortunately it probably is

Fancy packaging only screams one thing: big marketing budget. Some of the best skincare lines I recommend have very simple, plain and clinical outfits. Just because they don't match your bathrobes doesn't mean they aren't a perfect fit for your skin.
